Fixing a friends laptop, Ashton Digital Passport 2000, after he reinstalled Win 98se. Display is "stuck" on 640 x 480, can't change it, obviously default drivers are not real good with this laptop, but can't find any other drivers on web. Ashton Digital's site doesn't appear to exist. dound other drivers for another laptop version but they didnt' work, any help here?

Also need drivers for the network adaptors as well, but that's another story.

Thanks

You'd have to identify what graphics solution is in there, so you can attempt to install the vendor's generic drivers.

I know how to find the video card etc on a PC but how ona laptop? Looking at device manager doesn't tell me much. Trying to update display dirver only loads the generic one which seems to be no good. Can't find another one on the net to load...

If it's XP service pack 2, it'll tell you the hardware ID of the graphics device in Device Manager - see the "Details" tab of the device's properties. This decodes to what graphics device exactly you have there, and possibly even to who actually made the notebook hardware.

Since you've got win98se on there, you might try the free version of Everest Home Edition (get it HERE ).

DriverGuide.com seems to have a lot drivers etc for the d/l. I haven't used it in a while cuz now you gotta register and crud like that. But might be worth a shot in a pinch.

Okay, as Kurt Cobain used to say, I think I'm dumb....but I installed Everest home edition and I can see how it lists everything. It says the PCI/AGP Video is an ATI 3D rage LT pro, but is that relevant for hte laptop's screen or is that just for the video out in the back? I think I installed the drivers from ATI but I still can't make the screen size any bigger. (I can make the color better however, yeah!!!)

Can someone walk me thru the Everest program and tell me what column/heading I should be looking for a laptop. Thanks

Okay, figured out the f'ing problem.. BIOS was set to display LCD AND Monitor. Changed it to LCD only, bingo!!!! Now if I can only figure out why the wirelss card is connecting to my network but not allowing me to surf the internet that would be perfect!!!
