I know it will take a 900mhz, but that processor line goes up to 1.0ghz and I would rather put that in IF it will work.
HP site is no help.
I don't know why it wouldn't support the 1ghz, unless the bios won't go there....

(currently is a 550mhz celeron in there)
I can get a good 900mhz Piii for $40.

Thanks for any help

Your 100MHz bus will probably be the limiting factor. Are you sure its a celeron? I thought celerons had a 66 MHz bus until the Tualtin core came out.

It's definately a 550mhz celeron, 100mhz bus in there now (original).

Packaging is µPGA/BGA2.

Per Intel processor frequency ID utility v7.2

Does HP have updated bios's for this laptop? The only laptop I've ever successfully upgraded the CPU in was a Gateway Solo Where I went froma 500 PIII to a 650 PIII. I wouldn't push your luck too far with the laptop. IF you know it will take 900 then I'd go that route. You won't notice a huge difference in speed from 900-1GHz in a notebook of that age.
