I installed trial version of windows 2003 enterprise and kept default 'Administrator' user id and assigned password as 'anandtech'. This expired, and I acquired a real version of Windows 2003 standard.

During the new install, I removed old partition which had the win/2003 enterprise on it, reinstalled partition and formatted with NTFS, then installed win/2003 standard.

Now, it is installed, and I am prompted with it autopopulating 'Administrator', but no password I try seems to work. I tried the following:

anandtech
Administrator
password
Admin

I know I can wait until I get to work tomorrow, but was hoping that someone might have an answer to this dilemma before then, as trying to setup work product at home for testing.

Don't use a password when logging in. ;) By default the Administrator account doesn't have a password on any Windows OS.

Turns out the disc I was given had an encrypted Admistrator password, and since nobody had that, disc was useless. :( Got disc with non-encrypted password, and all is fine now.

Funny, my copy of server 2003 wouldn't let me complete the install without setting an administrator password.

I also remember Win2k workstation and server asking me to set an admin password as well.
