I no longer have an Iphone. It was broken. I backed up the phone and the contacts in an Itunes backup. I did not have Windows mail or outlook installed onto my computer when I backed up so I don't have the contacts in either program. I have just now installed windows mail / contacts. Can I export my contacts from my Itunes back up file (where is the file first off?) to Windows Mail?

I would like to get all of the contacts in some kind of readable format at all.

I am on a pc with Windows 7 installed.

Got ahold of a macbook.

I downloaded the newer version that has a GUI. I was able to pull the information out of the file and I know where my AddressBook files are. I however can not figure out how to work the non GUI version into getting those 3 files to get the name of the person whose information i'd like out of it. As you may be able to tell, I did not grow up during the DOS / code ages =[

Terminal, it is in Applications->Utilities.

How did you get it so quickly? :)

Sister decided to share her Macbook with me (total surprise) Didn't think that that would work out.

When I open up the old version of the software as recommended by that website tutorial I get

ross-isenbergs-macbook-pro: Downloads rossisenberg$

Now I can put those three extracted files that are AddressBook into my downloads folder so it's working within that folder I don't have to switch it up or point it in a different direct. Will that work? And then what do I type/where do I go from there? The contact that I'm trying to pull from this I only entered in a first name for them, not a last name. (I noticed that one of the commands possibly wants a last name and I'm not sure what to put in there to leave it blank)

Code and math = piss poor at both.

I'm returning the macbook to her for now. I've emailed myself the 3 Addressbook files in case it might be able to be worked with under Windows 7.

Not giving up here, can get macbook back from her at a later point.

I also checked out this:

I might try just doing word for word on that with the files in the download directory to see if it'll work.

Yes. From what I have seen in the GUI it pulls the entire contents of the backup up and out of the phone. You can see pictures and media without any problems. If you want to look at text messages - I'm sure it'll be some coding to get it out like I'm having trouble with right now with the address books.

I know this isn't any help now, but I believe (in the future, if you use an iPhone again) you can sync to Windows Live Address Book and that way you won't have to go through this rigamarole next time. :/
