can anyone recommand a few chinese history movies that would be easy to find an argument to write a pursuasvie story about. something like Hero but i can't find any good arguments for the movie

Red Sorghum. Great movie, lots of imagery.

And Hero is loaded with political meaning. Google it

isn't "to live" a japanese movie.

If it was, do you think I would have suggested it? 🙂

In a Post-War Tokyo, when the bureaucratic chief of department of the City Hall Kanji Watanabe (Takashi Shimura) finds that he has a terminal cancer, he decides to intensively live his last months of life. While dying, he finds the meaning of life, and fights for the construction of a playground in a poor zone of the city and the legacy of his existence.

Zhang Yimou's movies

Zhang Yimou is a Chinese director of several historical Chinese movies, including the aforementioned Hero and To Live.

Ju Dou was banned in China.
To Live was banned in China.

Apparently, Raise the Red Lantern was also initally banned in China, but later unbanned. Wiki

There's got to be a persuasive argument somewhere in there.

Oh yeah, they're all in Chinese with English subtitles. 😉

Or you could just do the "Once Upon a Time in China" series 1,2, 3, 4, and 5, which feature Jet Li kicking butt and taking names. These movies portray the time period during which the Western powers (including the U.S.) were imperialistic scumbags throwing their weight around in China.

Farewell my concubine and The last emperor would be my suggestions. Two great movies by two great directors, both had cinematic relevance while covering chinese history well.
