I have an older Athlon 1.2 gig pc and my video card is on the fritz and needs to be replaced. It's a Nvidia Geoforce 4 MX 420. I don't know if it was the best card or anything, but it was good enough, while it worked. It was actually a free replacement for my original Nvidia card that also crapped out on me. So now I need a new card, and since I don't keep up on this kind of stuff I have no idea what to look at. If there is something like slightly better than what I had, and maybe not Nvidia since they don't last for me, I'd like to know. I'm not looking for a $200 video card, just something to do the job. Any suggestions? Ideally I'd like to keep it under $75 or even cheaper, and I'm not a big gamer either. Thanks.

$75 should get you a 9800 pro if you look hard enough on these forums.

If not, $75 should get you a 9700 pro.

If not, $60 should get you a 9600xt.

Good luck.

Look at this place LINK Look under "Cables and Misc.". You can get a Geforce4 for $19.99 and they have a lot of other cards for cheap for old systems.

Which one would be a good replacement for my card? Since my computer is so old, I'm worried about overspending since I am stuck with AGP.

You should post to your own thread and actually NAME your old video, and the type of AGP you have.

we need rest of system to compare to. a 9800 will be wasted no a 1.1ghz p3. a ti4600 will be bottlenecking a 3.0ghz p4.

If you don't play any of the "newer" games you should be fine with buying a Radeon 8500 from someone in the forums.
