Need cheap vid card that does widescreen 1440x900

Anyone have a link to a cheap AGP vid card that will do 1440x900? It won't be used for gaming so performance isn't nearly as much of a concern as keeping the price down is. Hoping for something in the sub $30 range. Most of the cards I've looked at don't specifically list that as a supported resolution even including what I have in my machine that does support.

Any cheap card will do. Even if they don't list widescreen resolutions as supported, it usually is. As long as the supported (usually 4:3 ratio) resolution is greater than your widescreen resolution. It's all good. For example, a video card that does 1600x1200 will surely support your 1440x900.

Newegg has some AGP Nvidia 6200 cards for $30ish 🙂 Very nice, will play light games, excellent video playback.

A buddy of mine is running his Hanns-G 1440x900 with an old 9700 Pro, and I've run my Dell 2005FPW with as lowly a card as a Radeon 7500. There is a somewhat known issue of older Radeons not showing the POST screen (anything before Windows actually) when hooked up with the DVI cable, which might be worth considering when buying a new card.

I don't know if that's true, I have an old 9200 in the woman's machine with the latest drives and it doesn't list it as a supported resolution.

Nvidia GF6200 FTW 🙂

Have you tried using PowerStrip to force the resolution? Theoretically at least, it should work. Haven't used PowerStrip in a while, but the demo version should work long enough to allow you to add the resolution, reboot, and then select it as your desktop resolution.

It won't list all its resolutions until you (a) turn off "hide modes this monitor can't display" or (b) plug a monitor that actively requests an oddball resolution.
