I need to get a GeForce 4 (or similarly speedy card - maybe a Radeon?) that has a firewire port. I'd like something relatively inexpensive, if there is such a thing. Any suggestions would much appreciated. Thanks.

Firewire is generally used to connect peripheral devices such as digital camers. I'm certainly no video card guru, but I've never heard of a GF4 card or any other type of consumer video card for that matter with FW integrated into it. Perhaps there's some type of specialty or professional level graphics card that would include such a feature but these probably wouldn't fit your "cheap" stipulation. The latest Audigy sound cards from Creative include a FW port I believe. You should be able to find such a card for well under $100 if you look around.

I don't believe there's any GF4 model with a firewire port, but the ATI AIW Radeon 8500DV does in fact have one built in.

You don't really gain anything from the integration aside from a free PCI slot.

I see. I'm actually asking for my brother. He had been talking about buying a nicer video card (he currently has a GeForce 2) and now he needs something to connect his MiniDV camcorder into. He was thinking of getting the Audigy so he could plug it in there, but he already has a Soundblaster Live card, so I figured he'd see more of a difference in his video performance than audio if he went the video card route. Does that sound about right?

His video card will have no affect on video capture from the firewire port.

If all he wants to do is capture video from a MiniDV camera, all he needs to do is buy a firewire card. You can get one for like $40 at an electronics store.

If he wants to get better game performance as well, then I'd recommend getting the GF4 and a firewire card.
