I'm looking for suggestions on what some excellent monitors that are in my price range.

from reading the archives and stuff, there are 3 good choices:

1. samsung 955nf
2. nec fe950+
3. compaq p910

as far as price goes: samsung is the cheapest, while the 2 others are similarly priced

for display quality: samsung , accordingly, has the worst--albeit still GOOD--display.

i went with the P910 as there is a current deal on it right now (219+24 TX shipping)... i havent seen the NEC pop-up on anandtech on a while

the samsung is 190 shipped if you want to save some money

ViewSonic or Samsung.

And make sure that it supports at least 1600x1200 at 75Hz+.

That hot deal does look good, make sure you read up on it before you buy it though. And just so that you know, many ViewSonic monitors use a trinitron tube.

I have experience with both the Samsung 950P and 950B. The B is a lightened, cheaper, updated version of the award-winning 950P. Both are great monitors, but neither have the flat screen you wanted 🙁. In fact, compared to my Hitachi CM771, they seem downright fish-bowlesque. I don't know what your current monitor is, but if it's not comparable to either of these they should seem like a huge step up! It's tough to go wrong with general-purpose Samsung monitors, they are a great deal. However, you should remember to keep ViewSonic in mind, too. MANY people like them, I don't, but I do acknowledge their quality, and the GS790-3 is supposed to be fantastic. Good luck.

I've tried both the Samsung and the Compaq, and I'd have to go with the Compaq P910. Great picture and great warranty at $219 plus shipping.
