Can someone recommend a CHEAP video card (with DVI-D) for an old machine (AGP 2x or PCI slots only) that will definitely support the widescreen 1440x900 resolution of my new cheap monitor? This machine is only for internet browsing and word processing, so the cheaper the better. Current video card doesn't support any 16:9 formats.

THANKS

I am sure nVidia 5200FX PCI will be able to support this, but it's overkill for $40-60.

Go to For Sale/Trade forums, and ask for 5200FX, I was offered $25 shipped.

EDIT: just curious, what do you have now?

Although I'm not sure if that is backwards compatible to AGP 2x.

May be possible.

off-topic:
GF3 or Radeon 8500 is what id suggests (out of current cards) for Doom3

What is that second link for? it's really old.

Here's a quote I pulled from it:

R300?????faster and cheaper than the gf4 series........Anyways in september i cant wiat to see the Gf5(with exclusive 3dfx memory technology)===>Giving an 800mhz gamer 300fps in quake3.

That's an oddball resolution, and I'm currently fighting a battle to get my 5900 card to work at that resolution. Using the newer 91.xx drivers, the card doesn't offer 1440x900 WS support. Good luck with this, hope it works better for you than for me (Vista might be my problem as well).

I'm running my 128mb ATI Radeon 9500 NP @1440 no problem.
I had a 9600 that I had to sold because it support only agp 8X, and no backward support for agp4X motherboad. I standby my radeon 9500/9700/9800 recommendation.

Peter007 - thanks. I thought a Radeon would work as well, but I found a GeForce3 for cheaper than any Radeon I could find.... $20. So I went with it.
