I have a Kenwood HTB-503 (here), which works fine, except in some movies I have trouble hearing dialogue (sitting 7-8 feet away). I want to spend as little as possible on an upgrade. Someone on eBay is selling a new JBL Northridge center for ~$108 shipped (product page here). Is this a good center? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. TIA

You really can't mix-and-match a center channel, because it has to be timbre matched. As a scene moves from the front left, to the center, to the right, you'll hear a difference in the production of the sound, and it will be awful. Most decent speaker manufacturers use the same components for a particular price range of speakers, so, you may need to start with that in mind.
