Hello, I am looking for advice on a new SLI build I am putting together this month, and it has been 3.5 years since I built a system. I was able to research and select all of the components, except for the case, with some confidence. This forum seemed active, with well-informed and varied opinions and people. Any help would be appreciated.
Here is the planned parts list:
Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo4/SLI
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 4600+
RAM: (2x) CORSAIR XMS 1GB DDR400 (PC3200)
Video Card: (2x) MSI NVidia GeForce 7800 GTX
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic
Power Supply: Seasonic S12 600W
Hard Drive: Western Digital WD3200JD 320 GB 7200 RPM 8 MB SATA
Optical Drive: BenQ DW1640
My needs in a case are sufficient cooling and reasonable quiet (have no need for total silence), that can work without requiring a lot of effort on my part (I'm not going to cut holes in anything!) But with nearly a billion transistors of processing in this machine, I'm out of my element in understanding the cooling needs and solutions.
First question: Is it possible to achieve adequate cooling with the Antec Sonata II? If so, how many fans, of what type, and in what configuration are needed?
Second question: If the above is not possible, are there any cases with a height of less than 17" (I like to rest my feet on the top, so that imposes a height limit
) that can provide an aqeduate cooling solution?
Third question: If a taller case is required, what are recommended cases for this type of setup? The Nexus Breeze seemed interesting.
Thanks in advance!
