Need to know if I will see and realize a performance defference between the AMD XP 1600 and 1800 with such programs as games Web use and SETI@HOME?

You shouldn't see to much difference. But i'd say go with a 1700. It's just a couple bucks more than the 1600.

I have my 1600 overclocked to 1800 easily in my bios. It runs at 36c with a cheap quiet fan on it(80mm , 2700rpm antec). If the 1700 is just a tad more I would just get it and overclock it to a safe performance level of the 1900. I hardly notice anything faster, maybe big programs loading. I am not one to OC till they catch on fire but I do wanna OC it to a safe operating range since these processors will be out dated before there life span even runs out.

My girlfriend wanted the computer back so I just closed my eyes and clicked and got the XP 1800 retail.............. Honest!

well you can easily OC that over a 1.7 or 1.8 gig
