I want a multi-purpose business card that I can both hand out to prospective employers at cocktail parties and hand out to people that would tap me for computer repair. This is what I was thinking on a plain white business card in a serif font and centered. I was wondering if I really should have my resume email address on it (it's first initial, last name, the number 10 @gmail.com)

<my name here>
IT Specialist

<smaller font>Database, Network, Computer Repair and Consulting</smaller font>

<my phone number>

Handing it out to prospective employers just sounds like a joke. 10 times out of 10 they will use it as free toliet paper.

Mabye but I am going to a large meeting of information managers this week where I will be honored for a national award for my accomplishments over the last year. Several executives from fortune 500 companies are supposed to be there and looking for junior execs. I'm supposed to be swapping cards with them. I'd like a card just incase someone asks for one, which is becoming a very frequent occurance in my life.

Give them a copy of your resume unless it is a true job you hold.

How would you like to walk around a black tie affair with 10 copies of your resume stuffed in your inside pocket?

I was also thinking about "Freelance IT" for the line under my name....

Carry a nice folder/binder or whatever the hell they are called. Could hold your resume as well as provide paper for any notes you want to take.

you've got the right idea going simple. far too many people who try to design their own cram too much stuff on it. (seriously, who the hell puts images on a business card and is taken seriously?)

keep it simple, text only (if you don't have a logo), and use a contemporary-looking font - seems to be sans serif (helvetica/avenir/eurostile) these days. don't put anything on the back.

unless you have a non-freebie email, I'd leave it off. it may be worth your while to buy one of those email-only hosting/domain packages, I think they're only a few bucks a month.

As a designer i need a tight card to get attention. My card has a bunch of images and text on it, but it's sleek and readable. There is a certain balance you must reach. I just can't stand simple biz cards, whats the point? For some people they work, not in any case i have seen though
