Need BP6 Help

Sometimes when the computer goes to reboot, or when I exit the bios and reboot, the computer cuts out the vcard and goes into a kind of "sleep-zombie" mode (it doesn't moan though) I dont get what's up, the hdd light freezes on, the power light is on, I cant ctrl alt del or reset, I have to power down the system and turn it on again to boot up.

BP6 dual 366@366
128mb ram
sblive
isa modem
gts 64mb
ibm 15gb
wd 40gb
plextor 12x cdrw
usb and also tried ps/2 intellimouse explorer
MS internet keyboard pro
enermax 350w PIV approved power supply
that's it (kinda bare eh?) 😉

RU bios update, tried it w/ NJ also (very older one)
does it with win98se and win2k (no sp or w/ sp1)

What's up 😛
Tried disabling acpi support and various power management settings..
the ram is single sided pc100

Very possible that you didn't flash the bios right, you are supposed to use a specific batch file when flashing. My BP6 used to do all kinds of weird BIOS/boot things like that, but after I flashed it the right way, they all disappeared.

Also, try increasing the voltage on your cpus .5 volts. Some people report good results with that.

Well, the switches will work if you have all the right ones. For the super lazy, like myself, batch file is easier. But sounds like you did the switches though. I don't know what else to say. The BP6 has never been known as a robust motherboard unfortunately.

I know there were some problems mentioned with WD drives and the BP6, over a certain size, I dont remember what size though, sorry

the BP6 is too robust 😀

As to the WD Drive compatability, would it help or hinder the fact that it's on the hpt controller? It wouldn't recognize the size of the 40gb WD until I flashed it, maybe that's what the problem was? Fixed with the flash? I dunno!
Nothing is critical on the drive since there is no OS installed right now, I'll unplug it and see if that makes a difference.

About as robust as a threadbare set of underwear 😛

Ok seriously, I mean it's not a bad motherboard, but when I think, server level reliability, the BP6 doesn't exactly come flying into my mind.

BP6 is a nice board if you have one of the stable ones. I would not use its HPT controller. See discussions at http://www.bp6.com/Forum/ - do a search on "Photoshop" for discussions of the stability issue and possible fixes.
