Subject says it all. I'm interested in the number of 16x form factor PCIe slots I get for the $. Actually running at 1x, 4x or 16x doesn't matter. Bonus points for having them spaced well enough to accomodate double width video cards.

Yes, I know I can modify a 1x pcie slot to allow a 16x card to physically fit in, but I prefer not to do that.

AMD or Intel doesn't matter (so long as it doesn't require an exotic CPU), nor does socket type or amount of RAM. I just need the most PCIe 16x slots for the least $.

With only rudimentary reasearch it looks like my best bet is the 880 AMD platform which gets me 3 slots for around $160. Can I do better?

Thanks!

Why wouldn't the PCIe speed matter ? Just what are you trying to do ?
890FX has the most PCIe lanes, then you have some intel boards that have a nvidia PCIe chip on it to give their boards more PCIe lanes...

GPU computing using commodity hardware. Amount of data being shipped over the PCIe bus would fit over 8 bit ISA, 1x PCIe is massive overkill.

Looks like 4x PCIe slots is still very much a premium niche product, which narrows it down for me. I'll start pricing AM3 boards with 3 slots. Something tells me bulldozer won't have a low cost sempron equivalent, thus AM3+ is not critical. =)
