Want to start bike ridding, Im a big guy, 285.... any bike enthusiats have any suggestions of where to start?

Go to a bike shop, get them to fit you for a bike. Unless you actually plan on riding off-road, get a road bike, they're a LOT better on-road than mountain bikes. Also, don't buy any cheap $99 crap from walmart. it will break, it'll be heavy and slow, and worst of all, it'll be REALLY uncomfortable.

I don't know what kind of bikes to look for. It will be in city, home --> school --> work --> home --> gym ect

Go to the bike shop and tell the guys what your budget is and that you'll be commuting. They'll pick out a type of bike and fit you for it. :)

You need a good pair of bolt cutters, and a local scrapyard.
Then you can start off. Maybe an inner city would be best, foreign countries might be the best place to go, lots of bikes there.

I wouldn't agree with that. A mtb will give you a more upright riding position + suspension. Just add some semislick tires.

Don't know where you're at Richard, but if you have fairly consistent terrain, look at a single speed bike. No matter which way you go, you'll probably want to budget $4-$500, or just find out what size you need and buy a used one

It depends how serious you are. For the style of bike you'll probably be better off with a commuter/hybrid type bike than an actual racing road bike. Something like this. That's just an example. You're going to have to spend $400+ though to get a decent bike in that category that will last you some time. And yes make sure you go to a real bike shop.

Found a shop downtown that deals in those bikes :) So will go see them tommorow, thanks again for the help guys :) :beer:

Brands you want to check out (though I'm not sure all these make hybrids) are Trek, Cannondale, Giant, Specialized, and maybe one or two others I can't think of. Make sure you get shifters you like. I personally don't think I'd like grip shifters because I put a lot of torque on my grips, so I made sure to get RapidFire shifters on my Trek 4500.
