Does the 4870x2 only outshine a 4870 on larger monitors? I have a 22" Diamondtron from Mitsubishi and usually play at 16x12 or higher if I am able. Would a 4870x2 be overkill or a smart investment for next years crop of games? Thanks.

4870X2 can handle games at 2560 which makes it suitable for 30" monitors. On a 22" it's overkill, you probably only need a HD4850 on a 22" maybe a HD4870.

Yeah a 4870X2 would be overkill, best to go with a 4850 or 4870 if you are feeling generous.

Agree with the above. My 4870 plowed through anything I threw at it with my 22" monitor except for Crysis.

You should be able to use 2048x1536 on that monitor, right? Not as intensive as a 30" widescreen LCD, but more than enough to tax a 4870x2 if you crank settings. In fact, it might provide a better balance of pixels and settings than a 30", both in today's games and in the future. Plus, better pixel density, and 80+ fps.

Of course if your monitor can't do that resolution well (at least 72Hz and not blurry) then it's time to upgrade.

2048x1536 looks tiny on that monitor. LCD equivalent is 20" which runs and 1600x1200 and that is too tiny as well.

smart investment? it's an overpriced toy that depreciates slightly slower then a good meal. Computer hardware is a consumable, not an investment.

My rule of thumb... the monitor should cost more then the video card. (preferably twice as much).

I really wanna upgrade my monitor from my 700$ 24 incher to one of these:

2500$ MSRP (can be had for 1600$ after 600$ MIR) 1080p projector... 1920x1080 @ 100+ inches screen.
