I had to reinstall win2K a week or two back. I just got around to installing my recording software, cdrwin. Well, my old backup disc with years or files/programs/etc. will not read in my cd drive. So I download the newest version of cdrwin. I install it fine and then try and run it. Crash!. I reboot and try it again. Crash.
I cannot remember the version I have on my backup disc but I bought the software in June 1999. Thank heavens I saved the receipt along with the Unlock Key.
Anyway I have some files I need to burn asap.
Anyone have any suggestions?

BTW I reinstalled windows due to changing motherboards. I have the ECS-K7s5a now. I know I have read alot of threads of people having problems with them but I haven't seen any issues w/cdrwin.

Did you remember to get an ASPI driver for your burner to work properly?

Win2K did the same thing to me until I picked up the driver.

Go to this site to get the driver. Drop a copy of the driver in the directory with your burning software and you are good to go!

Yes, I already had the aspi layers. During the install of the newer cdrwin I downloaded it actually asked me if I wanted to install aspi layers.
Thanks anyways. I guess I'll just find another program.

I don't think the ASPI selection in CDRWin v3.8f and later is really functional in Win2K. I had trouble myself with CDRWin and ASPI layers (my thread's somewhere in General Hardware, I think) in Win2K and even though CDRWin says it installs its APSI layers, I don't think it actually does! Try the nero ASPI and throw it in /winnt/system32. Hopefully that would work. Good luck!
