Ok, ive been posting and reading and posting :p

I think I better upgrade my 1700+ since it's on a K7S5A and it is a early one that wont OC. I am going to movie it over onto my wifes P3 800 which should be one heck of an upgrade for her at this point. First off I'm a budget gamer so price/performance ratio is king for me. I am not a bleeding edge kind of guy, I have no cash for it.

Now my question is:

In this situation is it a good time to go for something like a barton 2500+ ? is it a good time to buy this? I need to goa CHEAP upgrade route and want the best bang for my buck because I am going to need to get a 9700 probably non pro for my 17000+ box.

So.. I have 512 MB of crucial pc2100 and 512 mb of crucial pc2700

I cannot afford to upgrade ram as well. I will probably use the pc2700 for now whilst leaving the pc2100 on the 1700+ ECS

I want a board that is under 100$ definitley. I do NOT need ANY onboard features. I will never use raid, or onboard sound (I have an Audigy 2) Power is not a problem I have an Antec 430 W TRUEpower. And I will be getting an ATI card 9700 probably.

I have plenty of LAN cards so I dont even care about onboard LAN.

Dual channel would be nice for the future, and it needs decent OC options for the barton OC. Also SATA would be nice for the future but I wont be using it now.

Thanks!

ps I really want it fairly cheap.

8rda+ it should be under 90 and it is proberly the cheapest of the great NF2 overclocker boards.

NF7 and A7N8X is is more expensive but have a bit more features, like SATA, but since you dont need that now...

You could also consider a KT600 board or a NForce400 (single channel) if you want to go cheaper.. (KT600 have onboard SATA, a big plus for the future, but does not OC as high, no PCI lock)

Whatever you want a barton 2500+ and your memory (PC2700) should be fine.
But the memory will prevent a great OC on FSB.

I've been building for many years now and the Epox 8RDA+ is perhaps my favorite board, ever. But many retailers stopped carrying them. Newegg had it for $79 shipped, until they ran out, and when they run out at the few obscure places that still have them, that's it, no more... :(

I am really interested in the single channel nforce400 are there options other than the soltek?

Not many. I am not familiar with the list but i do know it is rather short one. teh 8RDA+ souds about like that is what you are looking for. Granted it has to SATA it fits your price/perfomace very well.

Good Luck.

thanks I am down to the 8rda+ or the soltek 7n400

neither hae SATA

The soltek is single channel however, and performs just as well, and sometimes better than dual channel. Being that I do not have high performance ram, going single channel would be a better OC idea for me

The only thing I miss out on is the soundstorm which isnt a huge deal, but would have been nice :)
