Well, decided it might be time to finally bite the bullet and set up my own website. I want to have email and some way to host pictures in a nice gallery like they have on the myrid of other pic hosting sites.
Any good budget hosts? I dont need 100% uptime by any means.
What do I need to run email and to have a picture gallery? I wouldnt mind if I could set up more then 1 account for both email and accounts on the pic hosting side for family as well in case they needed a place to host pictures for ebay or whatnot. Also, is it better to buy a domain from the host or go through a different place to get a domain name?

I think I could find the host and get the domain name myself, no big worries there. But I would like some before hand tips and tricks to setting up email and setting up a nice image viewing gallery that allows me to create user accounts.

Gallery... Is that a software I download or is it something I want to specify having with my webhost?? (Like a plugin)

To be honest, I know jack all about this kind of stuff. I imagine I could figure it out over time, but I prefer to have my guns ready instead of just shooting from the hip (Last time I did THAT I dropped a DS3....)

As many as you want. It is database driven.
 
No clue about gallery but I just tried out 4images and I highly recommned it. Tons of user support plus it works well 🙂
 
99% of web hosts can easily offer email and will host an image gallery.

If you find a web host which offers cPanel with Fantastico it can auto install any of 3 image gallery scripts for you. It takes about 5 seconds and it's free.
