Well, wife dropped a hint she wants a nice down comforter and I'd like to get my son an R/C electric car.

I know jack about both.

Down comforters: What does one look for? I need one for a queen sized bed. Where should I check? Whats the price range (From cheap to Kennedy). Anything I should know about them?

R/C car: Leaning towards a Traxxas Rustler. Hes only 6 so no nitro. The RTR kit from Towerhobbies is $150 but still need batteries, they have a full kit for $200. This is just a *touch* more then I'd like to spend, but I could definitely swing it. I was hoping to find one in the 100-150 range. I'm tired of the Toyrs R US/Walmart crap, so I want a good one. I'm tired of ones that barely go across the carpet and struggle making it through the grass. Scale isnt tooo important, but I dont want to go any bigger then 1/10 just because that'd be a pretty big car for a 6 year old. So whats everyone think of the Rustler? Is there a cheaper option? Will it be good right out of the box or will I need to buy misc. crap for an R/C car? Any advice?

Thanks!

there isn't much better rtr than a rustler with an electronic speed controller.

batteries are $15 a pack.

you'll have a hard time finding an rtr setup that is 'hobby quality' with everything for under $150, unless you go used. *maybe* if they still have the old model of rustler they'll cut a deal on it.

May I suggest something smaller for your son for his first rc electric car.
Duratrax Mini Quake 4x4 Monster Truck.
Comes with everything you need to get him started, a 1 year warranty so if a part breaks it will be replaced for free through duratrax, and I have 3 of these. One for both my boys (13 and 6) and myself. Great little toy and does great inside and out and fast. Everything on it is replaceable and upgradeable as he gains more experance.

Dont get me wrong though the Rustler is a fine car, I actually owned one many years ago and now both my oldest and I own the stampede's. Just little more money your going to wrap up in those, and when he becomes more into the hobby go that route, just gonna need a better motor, better batteries and a lot more of them, a good charger, and I highly recommend going with a brushless motor set up. I been in the hobby for more then 20 years in both land, water, and air. Nitro, electric, and gas powered, for a 6 year old the rustler is a little much I would think for him, it will get up to about 25 mph and if he hits himself with it can break and ankle. The one I mentioned runs all over our yard and in the home and it the perfect size for a young person starting out.

If you want to go the bigger route though lmk and I will pm you with y suggestions on what to get so he will be able to enjoy the hobby learning how to drive a car then crashing it, worrying about motors, brushes, coms getting cuts, nicad, nimh batteries, and the works. Want to be sure to get him something he can charge and play with and if it breaks can get a part for it right away on line or at any hobby store to keep his intrest in the hobby. And I will be happy to point you in the right way, hell you want to go even smaller then that little truck we can ;)
