I'm looking to buy a health allergy bracelet that lists what im allergic too. Now i know I am allergic to Novocaine, procaine, lidocaine (xylocaine) but i don't know the name of that drug group. I looked on wikipedia and it says that procaine is a drug of the amino ester group. I want to really make sure before putting this on a bracelet that can save my life. Anyone know for sure?

that's odd because those are two different drug categories. procaine is an ester and lidocaine is an amide. it's unlikely you are allergic to both.

"Dear EMT,

I know what you're thinking. "What is this guy allergic to?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as I am allergic to novacaine, procaine, lidocaine (xylocaine), and probably anything with a 'caine' at the end, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"

Well i have a severe allergice reaction to xylocane and when I tell doctors that they refuse to give me anything with a caine in it. Which really blows when you go to the dentist or the dermatologist. Anyhow..I just don't want to die as they try to save my life! I already got penicillin down..

what component of the xylocaine are you allergic too? if it's the epinephrine they do make it w/o that.

you should have an allergist identify your allergies.

That would be far too broad of a catagory.
Lidocaine
Amino Amide
Anesthetic, Local

3) Contraindications
a) hypersensitivity to local anesthetics of the amide type or to any other component of the product (Prod Info LIDODERM(R), 2005)

PROCAINE
1) Class
a) This drug is a member of the following class(es):
- Amino Ester
- Anesthetic, Local

2) Contraindications
a) Hypersensitivity to PROCAINE or aminobenzoic acid and its derivatives
b) Sulfite sensitivity (contains acetone sodium bisulfite)

Tell them allergic to topical/local anesthetics and you may wanna check if you are allergic to sulfa/sulfate/sulfite as well.

Talk to an allergist.

because you are allergic to lidocaine does not mean you will be allergic to novocaine. they are used for the same thing but are entirely different drug compounds. your doctor is just a nervous ninny.

He already said he was allergic to penicillin, last I checked Novocaine sometimes has benzylpenicillin(penicillin G) in it.
