i agree. basically this whole thing is pointless. best thing you can do is report them to whoever is their domain administrator.

I agree. Hammering their bandwidth will only temporarily stop them.

the image on the index page is 80k - its the biggest on the whole site

Except from what I can tell, the index page image is NOT on the actual site. It's hosted off of some image server owned by yahoo (yimg.com), not the domain name (or, presumably) the account running the page. I could be wrong of course, but I would think an image under the domain name would have more of an impact.
