I'm not saying it's edema, but its a possibility. Are your hands tender or warm? Running a fever? If so, then there is a likelihood of infection.

1) i think the big problem, is with an open wound, the chance for a nasty infection is pretty high. especially with the rise of nastier and nastier infections in the world (because of #2).

2) seeing a doctor right away might have been a better choice, he would have given you an oral antibiotic (not that im a fan of people taking antibiotics) and perhaps a local triple antibiotic cream and bandage directions.

Is Edema what I get when I shower or swim and I see these little pockets of water on my fingers. When I put them water squirts out.

Sounds like you got shitfaced and burned your hands, hence the blistering.

In any case, go see the doctor about it. I can't see the point of asking ATOT about it unless you like getting 75% smart-ass comments and 25% pseudo-helpful guesses by unqualified people. I can't wait for the day someone takes advice they got from here, something goes wrong and they try to sue ATOT for malpractice or something.

The liquid coming out is just pus aka serum. Its not a huge deal. But if the blisters/bruises are quite large and you keep excreting pus, I would say go to a doctor. For now, just keep washing with soap, and maybe wrap up your hands with something. It is nothing serious.

Serum =/= Pus. Just because there is serum does not mean it is purulent. Pus is usually a collection of lymphocytes esp. neutrophils that do the phagocytosing of all the dead cells/bacteria when fighting an infection. It is usually thick like what you get when popping a zit, not watery like he described.

LOL. Did you copy this out of some medical dictionary. Pus comes in different forms, it can sometimes be watery. Anyway, what do you suggest it is? It cant be anything else. The body does not produce other products that would collect in the hands. Unless somebody filled up a balloon with some other liquid and placed it in his hands, it is pus.

No, I'm actually in medical school. Liquid can collect in lots of places. It's called edema. Edema isn't usually pus. I'm not saying it's can't be pus, but most likely not.

medical student >> freshmen premed.

pus is milky or cloudy.

Don't go to Alcoholic's Anonymous, it's the WRONG thing to do. They can't help you there so don't even think about going. Blackouts and drunken injuries are normal and everyone does it.

Remember, drinking is good.

lol @ 1st year COLLEGE kids who claim med student status

unless you're in a 8 year program, you're not a med student. if you're planning to fulfill requirements that will ALLOW you to apply to med school, you're not a med student. otherwise, 50% of the population in a university could be called med students.

when you're in medical school, you're a med student.

Thanks.

It's nothing, my friend Jonny Tremain had the same exact thing happen to him. Just make a fist and bandage it all up till it heals.

Personally, I'd be more concerned about losing your ability to spell. :p

Wow, you should really quit drinking before you kill yourself or someone else. Sounds like you are blacking out since you don't really know what happened. How old are you?

Sounds like a blister though. As others have said, go see a doctor. Might want to have him look at the toe while you're there too.

I once got one of those blisters on the top of my hand. Surprisingly it was after a night of heavy drinking in which I don't remember most of what happened. I think I just got burned by a cigerette because the blister was round and the size of a cigerette.
