Need Assitance w/ AMD CPU Black Knobs!

Greetings,

I have four black circular knobs on my brand new AMD CPU, on each corner of the chip.

I am about to put on my Chrome ORB fan/heatsink, but I`m not sure if I need to remove
the black rubber knobs.

I've been building Intel based systems for ages, this is my first AMD... yah yah yah...

Specs:

AMD Athlon 900 Socket A
Socket 462 on the Asus A7V133 mobo

Thanks in advance!

heeey, I got one of those CPUs... hehe.
Anywhoo, I don't think you need to remove those things. They make the heatsink sit evenly on the CPU. I guess they (AMD) introduced those for stability when they introduced that CPU core sticking out from the rest of the unit.

DO NOT,I REPEAT DO NOT REMOVE THOSE.

They are there for a reason and should never be removed,if you do your heatsink might wobble & chip a corner of the core while you're installing it.

So far... the consensus is DO NOT remove them. Glad I didn`t.

I have a Chrome Orb CPU fan, just slap it on? No tricks? Or grease?

Use the pad that came with the orb,if there's no pad then yes use Thermal compound.

Whatever you do dont use both at the same time,it's one or the other.
