Hey Group,
How do I make my daughters printer wireless? me and a friend at work was talking about them and he said that I have to have a "wireless printer"

and I said that I thought that it was done through a "wireless-receiver" mind you I'm just guessing as I am totally clueless on this topic...so who's right? and what do I need to make my daughters laptop use an external printer which would be in her room?

Thanks everyone!

You need a home network in order to print using a printer that is not connected to the laptop. That means router + wireless receiver. If you have that, you can enable printer sharing in Windows and start printing on the printer from the laptop. You still need the printer connected to a computer in the wireless network, so it isn't truely wireless. I've heard of some laser printers being wireless, but I'm not quite sure on that one.

Actually what yosuke said is not 100% true. There are several companies that make a wireless USB port externder/repeater. They act just like a USB cable but without the wire. Should be available now. I don't know the pricing so setting up a wireless network might be cheaper right now as there is so much competition in that market. One drawback to the wireless USB is that they may use the 2.4MHz band, so you could get interference from some nearby cordless phones - something to consider when shopping.

I know that there are some that don't rely on Bluetooth, but at geeks.com there is a bluetooth printer adapter and bluetooth transceivers (computer end) for about $40. total. I'm sure places like Computergate.com and newegg have similar. Bluetooth is interered with by 2.4GHz cordless phones etc.
