Need answer fast: How do you export all your e-mail, addresses, and options in OUtlook?

Arg - I'm installing a new mobo tonight so I'm reformatting my computer.

I am familiar with outlook express, but I decided to change over the the full version of Outlook that came with my copy of Office XP. I used to use a program called Inachis E-Backup to save everything when I formatted my computer - but it only works with outlook express.

So, I'm assuming to export everything, you need to go to File > Import and Export... > Select "Export to File" > Select "Personal Folder File (.pst) > then select where you want to save the file.

Is this the correct way to export all of my e-mail in outlook?

It's good to use the Export method to make a backup of your Outlook Express .pst. That's just good sense before you do anything that'd change your config. (the exported .pst does not maintain any custom rules you may have had configured).

However, Outlook doesn't overwrite Outlook Express (you can even run both on the same machine). During the Outlook install, you'll be prompted and asked if you want to import existing accounts from Outlook Express. Moving forward with that option will automatically pull in your Outlook Express Data.

That'd be the easiest way to go though either way will get the job done.

I didi that last month when I switched over to the regular version of outlook. I'm reformatting my computer tonight, and I'm not familiar with how to export anything in outlook (because I've always used outlook express).

So, if I export the folders to a .pst file, after I reformat, my new installation of outlook will be able to import all of the folders off of that file, right? 🙂

That's the correct method of exporting all mail out of your Outlook.

Alright 🙂 Sorry if I sound kinda repetitive in my posts, but I just want to make sure that my stuff will survive 😀

Yup, export your stuff to .pst. Be sure to check the original outlook.pst file and the one you export to make sure they're the right size before you blow the data away. Outlook 2002 imports the express data just fine.

Here's a good link for the right way to do things. If you want to make sure your stuff survives, read these links first. It's all there.

Express to 2002 and maintain your config

and some more reading material for the fringe work.

More Outlook stuff

Enjoy

But, I'm not going from express to outlook, I'm going from outlook 2k2 to outlook 2k2......
Same same. Just export and import.

Read up on those links I supplied for extraneous details.

In particular: The Backup Details
