Need another laptop recommendation

lol i did search the threads but didn't see a previous thread with these guidelines, so i'll pick your brains and lean on your experiences.

Son is in the military and needs a laptop. Primary use will be gaming, with light net use and possibly some video conferencing. He still likes to play the old Rome Total Warfare, along with COD2, and might get back into WoW. In all probability he won't be running much on battery (so battery life isn't critical), but i'm not solid on that. We're looking around the $1k mark, but he realizes you get what you pay for so......... On the down side, i'm pretty sure the "abuse" potential for bumps and bangs on this laptop will be high.

Thanks in advance and appreciate your time.

Whatever you get, I would advise you to invest in a warranty. That way, if he drops it and it breaks, it is covered. I have seen people come back from Iraq with their laptops clogged with sand, pretty much to the point where it is unfixable. Luckily, their warranties gave them new laptops.

I would say look at the XPS models from Dell or look at anything with an i7 and decent discrete graphics from like Asus or HP.

yeah, warrenty is a given, but it might be worth while to get an extended one. i'll look at the xps. thanks
