Hello peoples!

So I had my sights set on this beautiful new nvidia card and was all set to be wow'd by its awesomeness and then have a kegger... oh wait. Um, new nvidia card, special edition. Heart is throbbing for it but it's 'backordered'. So my new rig is now without a vid card (old card is Agp (haha) and new comp is, of course, Pci) and will buy a temp card. I can only spend about 70, 80 tops.

I like nvidia but am not too hardcore to admit somethings better...

but dont know if its any good. Or worth it. Or if something better exists.

Does anyone have another choice or option or something?

I think I am not making much sense... I hope I am...

I forgot to mention it, but the card needs to be better than a 6600gt. I'd assume they are but I know so little about any video card below the 8800series.
 
The 2600XT is actually a pretty decent card. Better than the 8600GTS and probably somewhere around performance of the 7900GS, IIRC.
 
I dont think any crysis will be partakin'. Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll look into some reviews and benchmarks.

The 8600gts beats the 2600xt and the 7900gtx beats the 8800gts so how do you figure the 2600xt beats the 7900gtx?
 
I'd like to thank all the peeps who delivered suggestions and advice. That 7900gs and x1900gt both look nice but I am worried about the 'warranty' of such. While I plan to only use the card for a short time, I do have another home lined up for it. A home that is very non-techie and poor-ish. 🙂 So I need something with a better life plan? But I was tempted 🙂

I guess that leaves things pretty much at 8600gt vs. HD 2600XT. I read a lot of reviews leaning towards the 8600gt but then I read a ton more for 2600xt. So in the real world, I think, think that is, that they are prolly equal. With on winning in one game but losing in the next. It looks like directx10 might be better on the 2600xt but I don't think I'd ever use it for that. So unless anyone knows a clear cut answer, I might just snag the 8600gt on fanboi-ism.

I am playing crysis fine on 1280x800 with everything on medium on a 7900GS and an X2 3800+ (2.0ghz).

At this price range the most bang for your buck is ebay...
 
7900gs is a crappy card right about now. With the latest games it can't even beat a 8600gt.

You should go with 1950gt. Probably the best card for the buck. Or if you want dx10 go with 2600xt or 8600gt for under $100.

I think he meant 8600gts.

8600gts beats 7900gt though in modern games. It's about equal to 7950gt.
