Need an SDTV

Older consoles look really bad on my lcd hdtv, which isn't even that good of a tv. I was thinking of looking up a solid sdtv for ps2 and cube. Can anyone recommend where to buy a good tube tv of about 20 inches or so? Do SDTV lcd's exist? Thank you for reading.

Look into buying a CRT HDTV; consoles will still look pretty good on those, plus you can still watch hi-definition content. The best two are no longer made (Sony 40xbr800 and 34xbr960) but you can sometimes find used ones for sale through Craigslist.

In case you weren't sure, the better/more expensive HDTV's scale SD content better than the poorer quality ones. So don't think that SD looks bad for all HDTV's.

I used to have a CRT HDTV like Shadowknight suggested. It was a 27" Toshiba. 1080i. The picture quality was excellent and if you could find one I'd recommend it. I can't remember the model number though.

If those are the Sony WEGA HDTV's, my friend has a 36-incher and it's a huge back breaking tank (234 lbs from memory).

I agree... my daughter played on the PS2 hooked up to my 46-inch Sammy 1080 and it looked pretty lousy.

This is exactly why the PS3's BC was so excellent - it _really_ cleaned up those games when it upscaled them to 1080p. They're still not looking like 360 or PS3 games, but a far sight better than trying to have your TV do the upscaling.

The 40xbr800 is a 40" 4:3 set that weighs 300 pounds; the 960 is a 34" 16x9 set that weighs about 195 pounds. Those suckers are heavy, but the image quality's worth it. You can score them between $300 and $500 used; the money you save on buying a plasma or LCD can be used to hire someone else to move the TV into your house for you

Find yourself a Toshiba or Sony with component inputs.

Should be $100 or less on your local Craigslist. Just keep emailing folks for their model numbers until you find a set with all the features you want.

I bought our CRT flat Toshiba 32" for $80 about 6-months ago and think its a great set for the bedroom.

Would a Sansui 27" tube from Sears do the trick? I know it isn't great, but would older consoles like a ps2 look better than on my Olevia LCD?

Unfortunately it is too late for me. I got the 40Gb PS3 no BC but at least it was $300. I only own 2 PS2 games and a PS2. I guess it's a CRT TV for that system. I do have a Tosh 27 with component inputs at least.

My PS2 doesn't look too bad on my Pio 5080 with component cables and set to 16:9 mode. Pioneer's processing is supposedly second to none, so it could certainly look crappy on other HDTVs.
