Need an RTS recommendation

My favorite RTS game has completely died. It's been dead for years, but I was still able to find 5 on 5 games for it on a regular basis, but now it's very difficult and some members of the remaining player base are toxic and not much fun to play with.

Are there any popular RTS games that move at a much slower pace than Starcraft so that they are not an APM-driven clickfest that can be played in online multiplayer team PvP? Or is slower paced RTS just a dead genre?

I loved SoSE, but never got around to playing online. Personally, I find every RTS online experience to consist of APM-fueled kids who think every match is being featured on MLG.

From what I found, Supreme Commander Forged Alliance has a pretty dedicated community who still plays regularly.

Online RTS's are almost entirely the domain of APM focused RTS's. Team PvP further assures you're going to get the "APM-fueled kids". Slow paced and competitive are generally at odds with each other. Forged Alliance still has a dedicated community, but If you're wanting a slower game play, that's not it.

Give Stellaris a try. That said, I don't how much luck you're going to have finding random matches. There's plenty of games running, but they're usually pre-planned games.

i found sose to be one of the most boring games i have ever played so, i'm afraid i won't be participating in this thread any longer.

I can see how someone might feel that way. You have to play it at all "Faster" speed settings and then play it in online multiplayer against human opponents to keep it from being boring.

That doesn't sound much different than SOSE in those regards. People play it online, but it's almost all noobs playing comp stomps in passworded or modded game.

I guess I'm looking for a non-APM based RTS where I can find team PvP games at most hours of the day and night.

Have you looked into Supreme Commander Forged Alliance? I know there's a dedicated community and while most of the community is playing at their own level, I'm sure there would be plenty of people willing to help play casually to help you learn until you get better.

AotS (now AotSE) has been my goto RTS for the last couple years. By now some of the older player base has grown pretty hardcore, but the game crowd can still be new player friendly. Game scale can be positively enormous compared to traditional RTS games like SC, lots going on.

MODs are also supported now, so variety is building up.
