I do not have all of the details on the TV yet, but from what I DO know about it, does this sound like a decent deal?

40"HD LCD, 1080p
PS3 40gb
Professional install

$1699.00 for the package.

Depends on what TV it is. Figure $399 for the PS3 so that leaves $1300 for the tv and install. $1300 sounds high to me. You can find 1080p 42" LCDs for less than $1000.

Depends what's included in "professional installation". Does that mean carrying it into your house and hooking it up to an antenna/cable or does that mean wall-mounting...cable routing...etc.

This factors completely on the TV in question.

If its a 2008 model TV, such as the Samsung LN40A650 = Fantastic Deal
However if its a 2008 Insignia 40" 1080p = you got hosed
2005/2006 model 1080p 40" = you got hosed
2007 model... maybe a good deal, maybe not, depends on brand/model.

You'll also miss out on next month's Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle:

$499 :
- 80 GB black PS3 with 80-90% PS2 backwards compatibility, 4 USB, memory card reader
- Metal Gear 4 game included
- Dual Shock 3 with rumble instead of Sixaxis

If you wanted rumble and MGS4 then you get the PS2 BC and extra space "free."

From the other details I gather without going to the store, it's a sony TV.
Squinting, I can make out what I think is the model # KDL40v4100

Looking the model# of the TV up on the sony website reveals more about the TV, however I do not know jack sh*t about these TV's.. I currently own a 25" apex old school $100 wal-mart special TV.

Any insight would help, here is sony's link to the model # listed

So, Like I said, is a PS3, this TV, and "professional install" (whatever professional install ends up meaning) worth $1699?

First off you linked to the W4100 which is a step up from the V4100 adding 120Hz.

However the good news is that its a 2008 Sony. (V2500 and V3000 = last year)

The V4100 is a nice TV, but it is 8 bit panel and 60Hz, which you will probably be fine with. Its the bottom tier of 1080p Sony TVs, but 1080p is Mid-Tier in their line, and Sony is a Top-Tier manufacturer, so the fact that its a Sony 1080p means it is a good TV, though I consider them overpriced. However considering the price of the Bundle, with installation on a good Mid-Tier TV from a Top-Tier brand, I would say its a Warm deal or slightly more, without knowing off hand the going price of a V4100. But still V4100 is a good, solid TV, though it has none of the decked out features of say a W/Z4100 from Sony or a Samsung A650/750 etc.

Price the V4100 subtract out the price you perceive the bundle from what you are paying and figure out if you think its the right TV for you.

$1290 is the best price I can find on the KDL-40V4100. That's from a place I consider to be reputable. Add $399 for the PS3, and the total is $1689 shipped.

You don't mention what the install includes, and you don't say if delivery is free. Surely you must know this?
