Need an opinion on web design shiz

so basically its a bunch of photo gallerys of my family, but im not sure what to have as the index, any ideas?

don't have any splash pages. nothing I hate more than going to a webpage and seeing a big "click here to enter" before I get to the actual page.

For a family site with galleries, pictures of your family, maybe a scanned drawing of your family if you have younger ones that made one, etc. Put up something that represents your family and you can easily identify, that's the point of this site.

just have the main page have a thumbnail of your favorite pic of each gallery, and have that thumbnail link to the actual gallery.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a web design article or reference recommend a splash page. I'd go with purbeast0's idea and just have a link to a particular gallery with a thumbnail for it. Laying the galleries/pictures out in a grid fashion is one way of doing it.
