Excluding Lineage2. I am playing it now as in the human area and even on a private server the high level gankers are atrocious. Any more ideas?

talking about private servers on this forum is a no-no
 
Saga or Ryzom

you can download it free and play on the newbie island as long as you want. Can actually get quite a lot of free time in this way. Then after that if you like it you dont have to buy it you just pay a monthly fee. Not sure how much it is anymore.

Either way it's a blast to get some fun time in with the free time.
 
You could try Flyff. Probably not the most advanced mmo or anything, but its free. Completely. The client can be found at alot of major download sites. You have to register for an account at flyff.gpotato.com.

guild wars is a great idea (no pvp untl lv20)
whatever anyone says do not play Conquer Online, it has some of the worst pking you'll ever see
