My teacher is asking everyone to pick an environmental issue that's a problem currently and then talk about how to solve it /implement a solution etc....

I'm trying to pick a topic that doesn't have cheesy written all over it.
By that I mean:
"kill pollution, use hybrid cars"
"Save the trees, use less paper"

I want something more original than that...something that isn't well known to the public or easily expected to be written about.

Ideas?
Remember, it must have a way to solve or improve the issue itself.

How provocative do you want to be?

I think you can make a good argument that all environmental problems can be traced back to the number of people we have in this world. There's no way we can maintain an environment that was balanced with just a few million hominands when we now have billions and the numbers are growing. The solution of reducing the birth rate will not be easy to implement.

Good luck!

Here's something good I ran into a while back on hydroelectric energy:

A few recent studies of large reservoirs created behind hydro dams have suggested that decaying vegetation, submerged by flooding, may give off quantities of greenhouse gases equivalent to those from other sources of electricity.

Just googled for it, I think originally on discovery channel. Most people think hydro is always very clean.

Oh and then suggest nuclear energy as an alternative :D

How about something about that government study of cow flatulence and its effects on the ozone layer? :)
