My case is old, so it only has audio connections in the rear. My tower is not set up to allow easy access to the back of it. Its a pain in the butt!
Now, I bought a headset to use for online gaming. So if I want to use it, I have to disconnect my speakers, then connect the headphone and mic jacks. Then when I'm done, do it over again if I want sound without wearing headphones all the time.
An extension cable would allow me to leave the mic plugged in, then use the extension to connect to the headphone jack on the speakers.
If you know of something else that will help me out, please post it.

radio shack. you want one of these:
well. probably you don't need gold plated. but go to radio shack and ask for a 1/8" stereo extension cable. you might need to to get the mic and speaker lines from the back of your computer to the front.

The other option is to buy a set of speakers that have both headphone and mic jacks on the front.

a third option, which is probably what you're looking for, that i just thought of. would be to buy a 1/8" (Mini) Stereo Y. use the Y to split your sound card output between your headphones and your speakers. you shouldn't need one for the Mic.
Here's a whole bunch of various Y-adapters. hopefully you'll be able to find what you need a pick it up at your local radio shack.

Thanks man. I completely forgot about Radio Shack.
A 'Y' connector would be perfect.
