Hey all, for my senior project for college I've been tasked with making a website (with a group) for a local church. They need to be able to constantly update and add new pages, and by 'they' I mean very old ladies. I've done a few hours worth of research so far and am about where I was when I started, so I was wondering if anybody had any experiences here with different CMSes? I've worked with WordPress before but I think I need it to be a bit less blog-oriented.

I haven't found anything easier to use than Dot Net Nuke.

Of course, people learn differently, so what's easy for you and me may not be easy for somebody else.

How about a wiki with anonymous editing turned off?

Something hosted might be best since then the host worries about applying security updates.

Seconded for wordpress, very easy to set it up and even though you won't get anything fancy out of the visual editor just about anybody can be trained on how to use it. The only problem with wordpress that i've found is you spend all this time building for it and setting it up and the clients don't use it often enough to remember how. It's very frustrating to work so hard to make something editable and then have the client call you for every change anyway.

I would also consider finding out what specific updates they are going to be using. Sometimes when I get somebody who just has one type of thing, say they want to keep a current calendar, its best to just build a regular site and include a custom setup that allows them to only change that one component.

cmsmadesimple is one of the simplest I've seen for being able to hand off to the client for them to maintain their own site.

Expression Engine is probably the simplest and arguably one of the fastest.

Another vote for Wordpress though - although I feel Wordpress can be a little daunting for users that aren't familiar with it at times.

if you put your email at the bottom, "designed by AuryG @ ..." - how long before one of those
grateful 70 year old ladies invites you over for dinner ?
