Need an Diagnostic code scanner for (OBD2) newer cars

I need a code scanner for newer vehicles as the family has newer but different makes of vehicles.

Can anyone suggest one? Thanks

If you need one to juts scan the codes then juts get a $30-50 one from harborfreight or eBay
