I am looking for a cheap Android tablet. I want an IPS screen with a decent resolution. I would like 8" or higher but I can deal with a 7" if need be. It must be easily rootable. Other than that I am pretty open. Used is fine as well, again cheap is important. Only going to use it for one app so doesn't need to be fancy, just a decent screen, rootable, and a fairly recent version of Android.

ASUS Zenpad 8 is worth a look too.

PS. I jumped the gun a little. I'm not sure how easy rooting the Zenpad is though. But did see an XDA thread showing how to do it.

Do you think that new Kindle Fire tablet is going to be any good? That sucker is only $50.

Do you need a high res screen? I picked up an acer 8" tablet that looks like an iPad mini clone for less than $150, and it's pretty solid save for the mediocre dpi

No, just IPS. I have an original iPad Mini and while the lower resolution isn't ideal it is certainly acceptable for what I am going to use it for.

A used Nexus 7 (2013).

I'd prefer an 8" screed as the pretty much 8" of the iPad Mini is already pretty small but given my budget I am giving this more and more of a look.

I used to have an LG G Pad 8.3. It was a great tablet, was pretty easy to root, unlock, and load custom ROMs on it. And I see used ones on eBay are going for under $150.

Decided on a 2013 Nexus 7. Can be had for $120 easily with plain Android, fast updates and rootable. Only box not ticked is the screen size but it'll work. Thanks guys.
