Eve sounds good, but I think i might fire up Oblivion for awhile to get my mind off of WoW. Is there a trial period for a new Eve account, you know where i can play and if I like it stay on, and if not , just be out a few bucks(rather than the price of the game plus a month's subscription)?

When you start EVE, you should begin with two immediate goals:

1) Get into a quality 0.0 corporation.
2) Get out of Empire space and into 0.0 ASAP

Empire space is boring and sticking around there is why many people don't last past the trial period. There's sh!t to do and no excitement due to a lack of PvP. You need to find a good corporation that operates in 0.0 space that will get you on your feet and guide you along as you learn the ropes.

EDIT: To make a comparison most people understand, Empire space is like The Barrens/Goldshire in WoW. You wouldn't have any fun if you were there any longer then you absolutely had to be.

EDIT #2:
If i get killed in the world i trot back to my corpse use a bandage and then look for revenge. I dont lose anything but time. If i get corpse camped I just log on my alt and come back in an hour or three. Where is the danger? There is none, I get more scared running instances than I do running around in the world. Death is mostly an inconvience, not something I should be afraid of. Thats what my problem with the pvp system is. People do not weigh their chances whether to fight based on what they have to lose, rather they just fight knowing that the only thing they lose is the time it takes to get to their corpse.

Every single thing about WoW's PvP that you bitched about, EVE does correctly. Well, you'll always have the threat of being steamrolled by someone in a bigger, better equipped ship.

that can be turned off.

not if you are looking for a group (thanks to 1.11 the looking for group chat (read Barrens Chat 2.0) is now global)

join a GOOD guild.

"Good" guilds are hard to join because they want players to have tier.5 already, be attuned and have some kind of street cred or whatever. I am in an ok guild (MC and thats about it so far) but I still find myself grinding for crap becasue I don't have teh time to run a 6hr 40 man raid.

play on a pvp server instead of a normal server.

I do play on a pvp server (Dunemaul) and the PvP is boring, its either random world ganks or getting steamrolled in AB by tier 2 guild squads. "Contested" areas are not really "contested" (no territory lost or gained). So in that sense there is no conflict. If i get killed in the world i trot back to my corpse use a bandage and then look for revenge. I dont lose anything but time. If i get corpse camped I just log on my alt and come back in an hour or three. Where is the danger? There is none, I get more scared running instances than I do running around in the world.
