need an ac powered cd rom or dvd rom external drive

Hello there I am looking for a CD or DVD external drive with a plug into the wall via a power adapter vs the 2 USB type. My laptop is old and crashes when I try to boot with the dual USB powered one I have. alternatively can I just plug one of the 2 USB plugs into a wall charger vs the USB on my laptop? it seems wrong but I think it might work. Any advice is appreciated.

Here's an idea, get a powered USB hub and power it off that.
