I'm handing down my current rig (AMD 2500+ Barton, 1gb ram, raptor drive, Antec Sonata Silent Case) to my sister and looking to switch over to an Intel.

I don't do any gaming. Mostly, browsing, burning, downloading, movie watching, excel/word. Most intensive program I use is probably AutoCad.

I thought about keeping the case, raptor drive, ps, but I think I'll just start from scratch. My raptor died once, its only a matter of time before it does again.

This is my current list of parts. Everything is in CND dollars and will be purchased from NCIX.com (Online Canadian distributor). I OC'd my Barton a bit, but didn't notice the performance. I think I'll keep this stock speeds for a while.

Samsung SyncMaster 226BW 22IN - $329.99

Western Digital SE16 500GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB $128.25

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition - $124.28

Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB 2X1GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12 Dual Channel Memory Kit - $99.99 (Rebate to $65 or so)

Antec Sonata III Black ATX 16IN Mid Tower Quiet Case $126.50

ASUS P5K-VM mATX LGA775 G33 DDR2 1PCI-E16 2PCI 1PCI-E4 SATA2 Video Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard- $135.70

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Dual Core Processor LGA775 Conroe 2.33GHZ 1333FSB 4MB - $183.38

Pioneer DVR-212D Black DVD-RW $43.99

Parts come in at just over $1100. There are a few rebates, but I'm not going to count those. I stuck with an on board vdieo/sound mobo, figured its all I need, unless AutoCad will greatly benefit from a dedicated card?

I saved some and dropped from an E6600, figured I could just OC it if need be? I don't know where else to cut costs. Do I need a 22" widescreen...eeek. I have a View sonic P95f+ 19", but I the price difference from a 20 to 22 isn't a whole lot. Is the G33 chip sufficient? I've heard people recommending the P35's?
I hope I don't notice much of a difference not having a raptor on the boot drive, but it died once and it has a habit of 'clicking' from time to time haha (fingers crossed that it holds out a lil longer).

Like the title states, just looking for an A-OK. I haven't kept up with computers since my last build, so I've been slowly getting back in the loop.

Thanks
