i know that inkjets are better than ever these days

my main concern is photos. id think laser would be better in everyway, but when u mention photo printing inkjets come up most often (although this may just be that inkjets come up more often period)

im looking at HP's allinone printers (willing to consider other brands, just using them as an example) and they have a few allinone lasers. im not looking to spend more than $350 on this thing. i can get a low end allinone laser for that price.

should i go with ink or laser?

For photoprinting, inkjets have it over lasers. Right now, Fry's electronics has the Canon Mp780
on sale for $150.00 after rebates. Its an inkjet that prints, copies, faxes, and scans. Based on the ip4000 printer engine its a very good five color photoprinter, is a non-chipped Canon which means it can take dirt cheap third party cartridges and supports easy refilling, and bottom line---when you refill your own or use third party cartridges you will print cheaper than a black and white laser, and blow away a color laser on cost and quality.
