For video games, you might get some problems with burn-ins with older rear projection TVs. Have you looked at reviews on the model?

What's the model #? Has it ever been repaired in the past?

As for burn-in, if it doesn't exhibit any now, you should be fine in the future as long as you have the contrast/brightness properly set and do a mix of viewing. (I wouldn't pause a game and leave the set on for hours on end :) )

Kinda hard to say what to offer. It may not even be a widescreen set, which, would be good if you don't care for HD (I would...but that's me :) ) as most games are 4:3 as are most TV broadcasts. But, DVDs would always be letterboxed.

I'd find out as much as I could about the set as possible. Also, how is it to be shipped? A 60" TV is going to way quite a bit and that costs $$.

Find out the model # (the guy just has to look at the back of the set) and check out maybe epinion or archives at avsforum.com or hometheaterspot.com.

My currency exchange may be off but that's, what, about $800US? Probably not too bad if it's in good shape. It's 60" after all...that's rather big.

After knowing what i know about projection TVs, I'd be very wary of its condition. If they're not properly maintained and calibrated you can really damage the picture.

If your calculations are right then I'd pass on this deal. Our local walmarts sell brand new projection screens (54" or 60" can't remember) for about $150US more. For reviews check out epinions.com if you find a model number.

I got my 40" Toshiba HDTV (widescreen) for $1000, and it was ISF calibrated (another $400 or so)

That's a good deal.

Your TV isn't a good deal ;)

Mitsubishi's are awesome, I have a 50" front projection mitsubishi, it's like 20 years old, as old as I am, my parents gave it to me. Anyway my point is that these things last forever and keep great pictures.

Compare prices to your local cheap retailers, the decide if its worth it. Personally I think that sounds sorta ok, not that I'd buy it. Be very careful with the TV's condition, get a contract in writing for the sale that maybe guarantees it will work for say 3 month, etc...

I'd say skip it....rather use that money to buy something new and not used for 4 years...4 years is a long time!!

Projection TV CRT's are sort of like light bulbs, if he's had them cranked up to the brightest setting, they may not have many hours of life left in them.

If you can look @ the TV, see what he's had the brightness settings @, if the picture in dim in anything but the flamethrower brightness settings, don't buy it.

Also, projection TV's are very sensitive, when moved much, the CRT's ususally need to be realigned. You can learn to adjust it yourself, but realize you may have to pay someone $$ to fix it after you've tinkered with it.

$800 isn't too bad for a 60", I have a 61" Sony & it's pretty well ruined my life, I really enjoy watching TV/movies on it, & don't enjoy going to the movies as much, nothing like watching Harry Potter in your undies drinking iced tea:D :D

You'll have to buy a cordless controller, so you can play the console games & not break your neck looking up.
