I am building a system and have already got the hdd, keyboard, video card etc. Now i need to decide on the processor, motherboard, cooling and casing. (Budget will be around 500$). I will be using an AGP 8X video card on the machine and i need onboard sound. Thanks.

The Masscool HS is junk. I had one on my first A64 build, and found it to be loud, and not a very effective cooler. I eventually replaced it with the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 and have been very happy. It mounts with the standard backplate, so it's easy to install. It's darn near silent, and cools quite well. My temps dropped about 5C after the switch.

Oh yeah, and it's only an extra $20 😉

Think I decided

Mobo
MSI K8N neo 2 platinum

Processor
AMD64 3200+ Venice

Cooling
Zalman CNPS7000CU

But I went to www.amdcompare.com and found that the clock cycle of this processor is 2 GHz. My old rig has a Pentium 4 @ 2.8 Ghz. Can I get a better clock cycle? Or the clock speed isnt so important....

the architecture of AMD excels over intel in sigle treaded tasks, so you will actaully see a performance increase.

i would buy retail version of a a64 and keep heatsink its actually not bad good temps keeps it cool and can be oced on.
