Hi guys,

Well I've been reading a lot of the posts on this forum and on other sites as well. I wanted to get a general idea of what people are doing before I asked for advice on a new rig. So here it goes.

First of all, My current rig is as follows (this is my first computer that I built by myself a couple years ago:
CPU: Athlon XP 1800+
Mob: Asus A7V266-E
RAM: 512MB Crucial
GPU: GeForce FX 5950
Case/PSU: Antec

I haven't overclocked my current rig but I'm interested in overclocking it after I get my new rig. Then once I feel comfortable with that, I will try overclocking my new rig

So why do I want a new rig? Because I'm a GAMER. I feel my performance on my current rig isn't cutting it for games. I want to play Half Life 2 , Everquest 2, Doom 3, etc. Currently, I feel like I don't get great performance when I run my screen resolution at 1024x768 for games like Soldier of Fortune 2, Battlefield Vietnam. My FPS are usually low and I can't play with all the graphic and sound settings on high or else it will slow me down. So I assume the problem will be worse with all the new games coming out.

Since I've been reading these forums. I've come to thinking that I should get the following

CPU: AMD 3200+ Clawhammer s754w/1 meg L2 cache
MOBO: DFI Lanparty
RAM: 2x512MB DDR---(Which brand and what type?)

Before I read these forums I was thinking of getting:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ s939 (for upgradability)
Mobo: nforce3 chipset--not sure which board though
RAM: 2x512MB DDR (not sure which brand and type)

But I'm confused now because socket 754 seems to have no future and socket 939 does have a future.

Things to keep in mind: I'm willing to spend some cash but I guess you could say I'm on a budget because I really can't afford to spend a lot. Also, I don't need to build anything right now. I can wait a bit, but I have that feeling that says "I want my new toy and I WANT IT NOW!" heehehe

Anyways, I would love recommendations and advise/comments etc.

Thanks everyone!
