Need advices in SSD choice

Hi guys how are you?

I`m going to the USA next month and i`ll buy a new high capacity SSD for me

I live in Brazil and here one of 1TB or 960GB SSD is something about 3x the price that we pay at the USA 🙁

So i saw this both SSD`s and wanna know what`s the best choice, and of course, if you have some more advice fell free to post here 🙂

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E1T0B-AM/dp/B00OBRFFAS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420590626&sr=8-1&keywords=1tb+ssd

http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Neutron-Internal-2-5-Inch-CSSD-N960GBXT/dp/B00RN088R2/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1420590744&sr=8-7&keywords=Neutron+XT

Thanks guys

The 840 EVO uses TLC NAND which is not as durable as MLC NAND used in the Corsair. It's good in benchmarks, but in real world performance and for longer durability, stick to a drive with MLC NAND, in this case, the Corsair.

Although if I were you I would just get a Samsung 850 PRO 1TB which also uses MLC NAND and is the current performance king

The Pro one worth the price diference from the corsair one?

So if i can`t afford the Pro price i should take the corsair one instead the 850 Evo right?

There is also the Crucial M550 1TB that is pretty well priced right now, and has MLC NAND... much better priced than the 850Pro. Personally, that's where I would go; putting my money where my mouth is, I just ordered the M550 512GB.

This one?

Better than the Corsair one? I really do not know a much about SSD controller, so sorry about the questions, i wanna make the right choice 🙂

Yes I also recommend this one because the 850 PRO might be a bit faster in benchmarks (tests) but when it comes to real world performance, the small difference isn't worth that big increase in price. So for the best bang for the buck, stick to the Crucial M550 1TB. excellent SSD and performance with the best bang for your buck (meaning best price/performance for your money)

I just wondering about the warranty, we do not have crucial here in Brazil, but we have Samsung and corsair, comparing this Crucial to the Corsair i posted at the main topic, what do you think between both? Almost the same? Warranty is something important for me and corsair here in Brazil have a good support as Samsung

But if you guys say to go with the crucial even with the warranty issue that i have here in Brazil i`ll get it, you are the experts 🙂

Well guys, what you say i`ll take, like i said i do`nt know nothing about SSD, so let`s take a final descison, i`m really thankfull for the tips but i have to choose just one

So, considering chipsets, controllers, prices and of course quality and speed, wich one to take, let`s make a little pool here

Corsair XT, Sandisk Pro, Samsumg Pro (way expensive) or the crucial (No warranty here)

MLC baby! Here's a review of it on Storage Review: http://www.storagereview.com/sandisk_extreme_pro_ssd_review

You can also see it's one of the AnandTech's picks for the enthusiasts/professional class of the Holiday 2014 SSD recommendations: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8783/best-ssds-holiday-2014

So your vote is for Sandisk, nice 🙂

Just a question, you said that it`s better than this new corsair released today, just to learn a bit more about it, what makes this Sandisk better than thisbrand new corsair XT, just curiosity

I really didn't know so I just read the review of the Corsair Neutron XT at Storage Review. Nice drive! I am not a fanboy of any drive. I just know that SanDisk has incredible support and a 10 year warranty. The XT just has a 3 year warranty. That may not mean anything to you. For now the XT is out of stock at Amazon and is ~$30 more expensive. If you were to get the XT I don't think you'd regret it. Seems like a fantastic drive! I'd still get the Extreme Pro, but that's just me. Here's the review for the XT: http://www.storagereview.com/corsair_neutron_series_xt_ssd_review

I would go with the 850 Evo if it has a good price and 5 year warranty like it does in the US.

EVO is TLC based NAND, I wouldn't ever trust TLC after the famous bug with the 840 EVO that caused old data to deteriorate in performance.

Now the 850 EVO is a new drive, we don't know what bugs it may or not bring.

I personally only trust MLC drives now.

To the original poster, even if you have Samsung in Brazil, we also have Samsung in Dubai, but they will not honor the Samsung SSD warranties because they said they only support warranties for TVs, microwaves, refrigerators, mobile phones, etc. here but not SSD as they don't sell them locally, so I got burned in terms of warranty, their so called international warranty is a joke, I even contacted Samsung USA and they confirmed that I have to send the SSDs to the USA if ever I need help with them. So make sure your local Samsung does support the warranty of an SSD purchased from the USA.

With all the choices given, they are all good to be honest, stick with the one that gives you local warranty, in this case the Corsair.

Everyone knows about your infatuation wrt anything TLC, maybe you should stop posting (only) your own experience & accept the fact that the bug was fixed last year & unless you've seen it recur just restrain yourself from expressing your obvious bias 🙄

Getting Samsung to honor their US warranty is a horrible experience and if you've never had to rma with them then you won't understand. My 840 pro locked up several months ago and I had to repeatedly contact Samsung customer support in order to get them to issue an rma. Their warranty is not in house but contracted out to a third party in NJ and they were also difficult to deal with. I also had to contact them multiple times in order to get the rma processed. After experiencing the Samsung US warranty circus I decided that I wanted another brand so I went with Intel because of their excellent customer service. You might also be interested in the fact that my intel 520 is faster than my 840 pro ever was.

I saw here that even Samsung and Corsair i have to send the unity to USA to receive a new one, it happens to Sandisk too, so i`ll buy and hope for luck, considering this what`s your vote? Sandisk, Corsair at almost the same price or the 850 Pro with a higher price? I`m really about Sandisk one and Corsair one, let me know your preference

The thing is what we're discussing here is the state of technology, TLC vs MLC, & RMA has very little to do with this. Barry;s personal reservations against TLC SSD, it may well be justified, is fine but it's been established that the last firmware update fixed that problem & continually harping about something which no longer exists doesn't help anyone. Also I can say a number of things about my own experience with the current ISP but that doesn't mean everyone else has the same problem. Generally speaking, personal experiences are just that personal but to dissuade others, from buying an EVO, based one one of these strong feelings (grudge?) isn't the best thing to do.

So what`s the best option for me considering all the choices here, even the crucial one M550, i`m not care about the international warranty anymore, all of the SSD`s will be a pain in the ass to get a good warranty here in Brazil, i just want the best choice for me 🙂

ROH1T I would suggest that you reread the OP's original post and get back on topic yourself.

Thanks, i just want my advices here for you guys that are experts in this SSD`s

So many options to choose and i`ll have to only select one, it will be for a long time my main SSD so i don`t wanna make a mistake here

He already has a list, he just needs to decide what's more important to him i.e. reliability (& local RMA support?) OR more GB/$ ~
  1. Samsung
  2. Sandisk
  3. Plextor/Crucial
These are my picks in that order & each one of'em have competing drives covering all major price brackets.

Sandisk Ultra II, 850 EVO, Crucial M550, Transcend SSD370, Mushkin Enhanced Reactor 1TB et al ~ In case you're looking for 1TB drives.

For 512GB or below my suggestions would be ~ MX100, 840 Pro, Plextor M6S, OCZ Arc 100, Intel 530 etc.
