I'm looking for some real world advice. I need to retrofit a machine with a new MB and processor to be used for dedicated video processing. In a nutshell, we will take videos from a DVD recording Camcorder (VOB files), clip a bit off the front and back, add titles, and then encode the files (Raw they are between 1 and 1.5Gb) into something more downloadable (Probably WMV format)
Right now we are doing this on an general purpose AMD machine running XP Pro.
Soyo MOBO
AMD 2800+ OC'ed to 3200
1.0 Gb DDR PC 2700 RAM
Maxtor 200Gb, 7200RPM, 8mb buffer HD
We use Ulead VS9 for the edits and have also used it for the encoding. We have tried Windows Media Encoder but sometimes it does weird stuff, and sometimes crashes.
Now for the kicker, I need to spend as little as possible.
Suggestions?
As a side note, anyone have a good resource on the differences between all the friggin current AMD processors (Sempron, Athlon64, etc.) In particular, which will provide for the fastest video encoding.
OK, Go wild.
