need advice with cpu/mobo upgrade

hello all.
I've decided to do the haul to 64 bit but would like to stick to skt 754 if possible. I would go the extra mile to skt 939, but I just purchased a AGP 6600gt and would like to hang on to it for as long as possible.

I was thinking of going for the 3200+, but need to know if if (and how much) of a performance boost from a xp2600+ I would get? If anyone who has made a similar upgrade could tell me the gains they got I would really appreciate it. Thanks

There are socket 939 AGP motherboards... Anandtech just did a review on one with both AGP and PCI-e (ASRock 939dual) so that shouldnt be a problem at all. Going from a 2.083GHz FSB 333 XP to a 2.0 (or 2.2) GHz A64 should give you around 20-30% more performance on most apps. The system will also feel a lot snappier.

Hi PieFloater and Welcome to the Forums!

nForce 3 mobo's have skt 939 and AGP.

You'll get a slight upgrade, but definitely more so if you OC your your 3200. They Over clock extremely well, and you can squeeze out a lot of performance doing that.
